What is a Podcast and Podcasting?
Podcasting is the method
of distributing multimedia files, such as audio or video programs, over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices (MP3 players) and personal computers. The term, coined in 2004, is a blend of the terms "iPod", a popular portable audio device, and "broadcasting."
Usually
a podcast features one type of 'show', with new episodes released either sporadically or at planned intervals such as daily
or weekly.
What makes podcasting
special is that it allows individuals to publish (podcast) radioshows that interested listeners can subscribe to. Before podcasting
you could of course record a radio show and put it on your website, but now people can automatically receive new shows, without
having to go to a specific site and download it from there. This is usually by 'FREE' subscription to the podcast via iTunes.
